What is insured?
- An insured person is kidnapped, maliciously detained, hijacked or is caught up in a hostage situation.
- Someone illegally threatens to harm an insured person or their property.
- Someone extorts an insured person and demands a ransom in exchange.
- An insured person disappears without trace
What are my obligations?
You must fairly present the risk to us, including by disclosing any information material to the insurance. You could invalidate the policy; claims may not be paid or the amount we pay may be reduced if you do not.
- The insurer will not make any payment in respect of anything you knew, or ought to have known, before the start of the period of insurance which would be likely to result in a claim or loss.
- You must let us know of any changes to your circumstances during the period of insurance and, when telling us about such changes you must present the risk to us fairly. You could invalidate the policy; claims may not be paid or the amount we pay may be reduced if you do not.
- You must restrict knowledge of the existence of this insurance policy and treat it with utmost confidentiality.
- You must not make a fraudulent claim or try to deceive us or fail to pay your premium. We may terminate the policy if you do.
- You must always act prudently and to all things reasonably practicable to avoid or diminish loss.
If you believe an insured event has occurred, you must:
Telephone control risks using the telephone number shown on your policy documentation.
Let us know as soon as possible.
Before agreeing any ransom payment, make a reasonable effort to determine that the insured event has
occurred and is not a hoax, and ensure that a senior family member agrees to the payment of the ransom,
and be able to demonstrate that the ransom was surrendered under duress.
- If making a personal accident claim, the injured insured person must allow our medical adviser to examine
them and must place themselves under the care of a qualified medical practitioner approved by us.
